How to Maintain Work/Life Balance

Freedom is GREAT, but balance is ESSENTIAL!
As an entrepreneur who works from home, it can be a big inconvenience when I have to leave my office for extended periods of time during the day.
Unfortunately, there’s no PTO or sick time for me…at least not yet!!
Fortunately, there are times like this when I can take my work with me. It was time to get my car serviced and the dealership happens to have a GREAT lobby with large public and private work desks.
I do have to get used to people randomly stopping to talk to me though. The introvert in me is hesitant, but most times I don’t mind it.
I often get asked what it is I do, so I always make sure to have some business cards on hand.
It’s a huge blessing to have a job that allows me the flexibility to be mobile. That REALLY comes in handy when it’s time to travel (planned or unexpected).
In fact, my friends and family always ask me the same question when it’s time to go somewhere. “Are you bringing your laptop?”
That can mean one of two things. DON’T bring it…they want my undivided attention. Or BRING IT…they want me to work on something for them.
This flexibility does require me to work harder at maintaining my work/life balance. The fact that it’s so easy for me to work from almost anywhere, also makes it easy to work when I shouldn’t be.
Here’s how I’m achieving that balance:
1.  Establishing daily working hours and sticking to them
2.  Utilizing software that helps me organize and manage projects, tasks, and clients
3.  Having a dedicated workspace that separates work from my personal life
4.  Scheduling non-negotiable periods of downtime and rest
Not properly managing your freedom can quickly become your prison. Finding balance is the key to making freedom work for you, not against you.
